Big Tax Break For Small BusinessesIn today’s business environment, people often say that you need to keep ahead of technology to stay ahead of the competition. It’s a fine concept, but can also be very expensive and time consuming. The easiest option is to return to your existing supplier, providing you have had an adequate service in the past. But is this giving you access to the latest technology, and the most cost efficient solution? If you are upgrading or installing new telephone equipment, this may not be the case. Traditional telephone PBX’s are hardware based and need engineers to adjust system applications. This involved increased costs and time delays. Now, however, there are telephone systems that have more applications accessed via your p.c. Therefore the system administrator can add or delete users, add or remove voicemail for each individual user, distribute DDI’s and many more features from their desktop. What’s more, these new systems are less expensive to purchase, and once installed, voicemail is available to every user until you reach the systems capacity. But the best news is that you can claim 100% first year capital allowance, thereby getting immediate tax relief on the whole investment. Gordon Brown announced in his April 2000 budget that this relief would be introduced to encourage small businesses to compete in e-commerce. The tax break can be used by any small company purchasing equipment that affords Internet Connectivity. P.C.'s, routers, firewalls and software all fall into this bracket, and because it includes a router and a firewall, so does the Network Alchemy range of telephone systems. The criteria to qualify under the Governments definition of a small business couldn’t be easier. If you fit two of the three following requirements, you qualify: 1. You employ less than 50 people 2. Your turnover is less than £2.8 million 3. You have assets of less than £1.4 million What’s more, you can offset the purchase in the year you buy, or in the previous year. |
