Portable PC's
Choosing to buy a portable PC brings advantages to users and organisations
alike.
However, there are a few do's and don'ts to consider before you actually decide to get a
portable PC.
The first is WHY, make sure that the purchase is not a status symbol (we do
see it), that will adorn the office desk, never to be removed or used in anger as a
portable PC.
One point to bear in mind is the fact that Portable PC's are much more
expensive than their desktop counterparts, and spares can be difficult to get hold of for
upgrades later down then line. The increased costs are normally due to the miniaturisation
and ruggedness of the components.
Other matters to consider are: battery life; screen size; weight;
accessories(both built-in and add on); availability of port replicators (essentially the
'base-station' for the PC when in its main office)
Our suggestion is to get the best you can afford at the time, without
needing to add any more items (RAM or additional hard disk space).
Recent advances in portable technology have made larger screens, longer
battery life, and very fast processors the norm. The days of having to squint a the poor
display are long gone, and you probably won't need a large monitor.
Regretfully you will need increased muscle capacity and reduced space in your case !
