Mobile Phones can be contacted from e-mail systems using a system called
SMS.
This transmits text messages at very low costs to digital mobile phones. Whilst this is
not a replacement for actually speaking to the person you are dialling, it can be easier
and cheaper than leaving a message on their mobile phone message retrieval system.
In addition to this, mobile phones can also allow portable PC users to connect to their
network system without having to use hotel or client telephone sockets.
If specified correctly, this addition should mean using the same PCMCIA (credit card size)
modem for both mobile and land line connections. Beware of having to use mobile phones for
laptop connections - they are still slow and expensive.
