Keeping in touch
Once you have decided to purchase a portable PC instead of a desktop, you will need to
decide how you keep in touch, and where to keep all the masses of wires and other items
you will now suddenly need.
Connection to the network can be done via an integrated network card in the 'base-station'
in the office. If you only visit the office infrequently, or need to log onto more than
one network in different offices, you will need to take your network card with you.
When away, you will need to connect to the organisation's e-mail system, via
your modem.
Using Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft Exchange Server, you can connect to
your office from anywhere in the world to transfer messages and transfer files.
One other aspect of MS Exchange server, is that it keeps a synchronised copy
of your messages so if your portable is lost or stolen, you can log in elsewhere.
