The computer people you can believe in

Accessories In order to keep your portable system running, you will need to develop a small array of items. Here are some we have found useful. Case - Most portable users carry their PC in a special PC padded case. Whist this may be one option, it also advertises you are carrying something worth stealing. Consider getting a larger briefcase, and not using the PC carry case. Insurance - Sounds silly, but check your group insurance covers your new addition to the family. Take note of the serial number, and also set a BIOS password to prevent easy access by unauthorised users. Modem - You need to connect to the outside world, so get the fastest you can, but make sure the modem you normally dial, is also fast ! Don't forget to get a phone extension lead, as you may not be working next to the wall socket. Tags - This sounds silly, but all wires look alike, so make sure you label all wires in your set. Also if you leave one behind, they will know that it is one of yours. Security cable - The cheapest method of keeping your PC is a small wire that attaches your PC to an immovable (or at least heavy) item. For a cost of around GBP35.00, it is the cheapest way to stop your PC vanishing to all but the most determined of thieves. Use this in your car or hotel room as well. Mice - Although all Portables come with internal mice or touchpads, most of our users (OK all of them!) carry a spare MS Mouse.
